SDS 2.24 – Black Sheep

Singapore Toy Games Comics Convention 2010 aka STGCC! Alright, I managed to go to all three days since I was helping out at the con too so it was from 10 Dec to 12 Dec. Most of the pictures of the stalls etc were taken on Friday BEFORE people were let in so HO HO HO, I could take pics before I got the crowd in the hall.

They had a media preview and opening thing in the morning of Friday. Try to spot as many guests as possible in this pic, heh. It was before they got into the panel room before it all started.

Besides the usual booths selling anime/manga/toys/artwork/etc, we had booths also from the various arts schools, studios and most importantly Marvel! It was their first time having a real booth including portfolio session in Asia! They had signings there from the various Marvel artists and writers too. It wasn’t that huge of a booth but it was significant enough on its own being there.

Alright, they also had a little concert including handshake session for the fans of AK48B! For the first fifty though but anyway, their concert was at the theatre and that was a different sort of ticketed event of STGCC! You can find out more at TokuAsia on them.

There were certainly lots of designer toys including action figures and whatnot sold at the convention too. However, you probably can find the stores around town and Chinatown or Action City for some of them. The con was just convenient if you wanted to buy something on sale too, heh since at least over here, you didn’t have to go around all over town to find them.

And this was the theatre. I took a picture AFTER the whole panel session there, it was actually pretty packed and since I was sitting in front, it was kind of weird if I turned backwards to take a picture of everyone. The difference between this year’s and last year’s STGCC was that this year we had actual panels and talks from the guests who came! So that was cool since you could ask questions and all to them.

There were of course autograph sessions. I’m being pretty brief here because heh, this post is more of a summary post of 3 days.

Alright, besides the usual cosplay competitions, movie screens and all, Team J Phillips, a stunt group from Hollywood did performances showing how they do their stuff!

It was very cool since they all had their own specialties of doing things.

Games especially like the Kinect was at some shop selling them. People could demo and really, putting dance central there is a good way to make the shop noticed, heh.

Ok, now for just pics because there’s a lot! The dragon can actually expand his wings. Hmmmm.

Also Stormtroopers were of course there. Petting… tigers?

Mascots too! From Doodoo dolls and some online game. The girl you see in the booth, well… She’s there until you help her finish 500 surveys and then she’ll be free or something. Hahaha, so yeah. She spent the 3 days in the booth there, of course with breaks but mostly sitting there to act cute for the photogs and get people to sign up?

And then she vanished into her own subspace dimension somewhere…

More detailed reviews on them in a different post including a comic which I got for free called Salvation Sam (not pictured here), I pretty much bought Kalkitos, Gone Case by Dave Chua, a Lara Croft figurine and a free comic from an Australian company with the title “Baby Baby”, it was more a PSA comic though but I wanted to check it out.

And that was it for STGCC! Hahah, not really!

This post is pretty brief because I’m writing more detailed ones at Here Be Geeks! So if you want to check out the panel summaries, photos from all 3 days and interviews, check out: Here Be Geeks since I’m posting there too. It would have been VERY spammy if I posted here with all the stuff we have at STGCC!

More interviews also done by Red Dot Diva with the invited guests, focusing more on the comics side.

The Toku Asia people interviewed and summarized the days, more towards the cosplay and designer toys section here.

The Cosplay Chronicles… of course focusing more on the cosplay on day 1 and day 2!

ALSO, video summaries by R3LOAD network! The main video is here but you should check the website to see all 9 videos including bonus footage of the cardboard Gundam, competitions, performances and media preview.

And… bonus to see what the adventure crew were up to on the second day from The Magical Harkow here.

THAT IS IT! See you guys at 2011’s STGCC, yes!

  1. The cool thing about the video is not the techniques, but the continuous flow of them, one after the other. By the way, if you’re looking for more of that kind of thing, the keyword on youtube would be “tricking”.
