Happiness at the End of the World!!

YEAH, YEAH! Finally! Our book is in stores! Or rather, I finally saw it in Kinokuniya Orchard with Mintea! It’s Happiness at the End of the World (HatEotW)! Amusingly, if you want to read our previous 2007 anthology, “So You Think You Can Write A Novel?”, it’s there too.

Don’t know what HatEotW is about? It’s a science fiction anthology of 8 short stories (by 8 writers) based around the theme of the end of the world!

Except that it has happy endings because we wanted something not depressing when you look at the local shelf here. (The writers in the book do write other things with semi-depressing endings if you like but just for this book, we wanted happiness!)

Even if we were given the same theme (yes, I’m one of the writers in the book!), all of the stories vary from each other and we noticed that amongst those who bought the book during the book launch last year, everyone had a different favourite story out of the lot.

As for So You Think You Can Write A Novel?, it’s not a self help book but more an anthology of 18 stories by 18 writers of different genres and said stories are from their own novels. BUT ENOUGH ON THAT, let’s focus on the latest book first!

Oh, here’s a book trailer if you haven’t seen it yet. It’s simple but to the point.

SDS 1.4 – Throwing Stones

A not too extreme adventure this time. The cast (or rather crew) of Sarah Does Singapore heads off to Kallang Leisure Park! That included Jo, Raven, Avariel, Mintea and bonus guest star, her sister, Hopeily! Well, it was Kallang for starters anyway.

SDS 1.3 – Welcome to the Jungle

Past the urban jungle of Singapore, lies nature (relatively) untouched. There, our adventure crew for the weekend headed into Bukit Timah nature reserve for their guided walk by the park volunteers! It happens every 3rd Saturday of the month and it’s totally free, unless you’re in a large class group or something then you’d have to pay for the excursion. Meanwhile, this episode’s co-stars include: Joelyn Alexandra, Raven Silvers and Avariel. (Mintea guest stars in the later part of this post.)

SDS 1.2 – Stairway to Heaven

The really weird thing nowadays in Singapore that if you go to Orchard or Somerset, you’d end up in a mall once you get out of the train station. The even weirder thing is that there’s so many malls like woah and they’re all next to each other. This makes it quite confusing for anyone who hasn’t been there for quite a while. Considering most of the malls are similar to each other, I went “Wooooh” when I got the newsletter from my climbing place that they’ve set up a shop in one of them at Orchard Central! It’s the Via Ferrata by Border X. Guest stars for this adventure include: Joelyn Alexandra, Avariel and Mintea.

See that thing above Gelare? THAT is what we’re gonna climb.

SDS 1.1 – Hot and Cold

Beginning a story is always difficult.

Waking up early to begin mine was even more difficult especially when I spent the day before on a phone rescue mission that included going around abandoned HDB blocks (don’t ask).

On the first Saturday of January, I woke up at around 7 am so I could head to the National Museum of Singapore by noon. Of course, that included time to roll around in bed and wonder why the heck I was doing up.

Versus Undead #1.1

Versus Undead is an Adult rated (soft) sci-fi series about an apocalyptic world getting over run with zombies and vampires. It’ll be posted on Saturday fortnights. Heh, language and adult content included so… Parental guidance is advised (????? I don’t know who’d ask their parents for permission to read this anyway). Heck, it’s nothing too graphic that you can’t pick up from the library. Enjoy!

Sarah Does Singapore – The Prologue

ad⋅ven⋅ture

/ædˈvɛntʃər/

–noun

  1. an exciting or very unusual experience.
  2. participation in exciting undertakings or enterprises: the spirit of adventure.
  3. a bold, usually risky undertaking; hazardous action of uncertain outcome.

2010 will be the year of adventures. There’s technically 103 weekends and minusing public holidays, it would be 99 weekends in a year. Unless I miscalculated or something.

Nonetheless, I have no idea if I’ll go over 99 days or get under it. Let’s see if it’s more, eh?

This project came about cause people kept saying there’s nothing to do in Singapore and yet, I keep ending up in random adventures just like that. I only realized that not everyone ends up in a strange exciting places almost on a weekly basis. (Almost because I might be tired or lazy to go out on some days due to weather or whatever.) This time however, I WILL  proactively have at least one adventure per week.

Except when I’m sick or am told not to get out of bed or whatever but generally, yes, I will adventure!

I welcome anyone who’s not a creepo person to come along with me but you got to pay for your own things or fees to do the stuff that I wanna do. Whether you’re a tourist coming to Singapore or a person who’s been wanting to go to some certain place here but always thought that you needed someone to go along with but your friends think it’s too scary/expensive/lame/no time, well, I’m gonna do it and I don’t mind anyone else coming along too.

Unless, as I said, you’re a creepo.

Said adventures will generally be on the weekends mostly on Saturdays while there might be some on week day nights instead, so we’ll see. It’s not as if I’ve got a contract for all this.

Sarah Does Singapore will be posted every Monday starting from 11 January 2010.

Let’s have some fun indeed.

Ps. If you do wanna go on any adventure, email me at sarah (at ) seriouslysarah.com with the subject title “Sarah Does Singapore Adventure List” and I’ll put you in a mailing list to show where I’ll go for the month. Activities aren’t gonna be on a specific timetable just in case there’s other things happening only on a special weekend but if you do say yes to any activity, I’ll email you back to confirm who’s going too and when to meet up etc!

Pps. OR, if you read my twitter, it’s faster to contact me there if said activity doesn’t require any booking whatsover!

Ppps. I really write a lot on my twitter.
