Writer Flash Mob Takes Over Club Street

Polymath & Crust. 86 Club Street. Ooh-er, I got lost getting there. Was this really the place?
Tash Aw’s book launch in Singapore

Monday, June 1st, The Pod at the National Library. It was a rather good turn out especially on a Monday evening! The Pod’s a restricted area on the 16th floor there and the staff there had to beep their cards so we could take the lift up.
Sims 3 launch!
It was yesterday on the 2nd June at the Iluma in Bugis (Singapore, if you’re not local reading this). And oh man was it insane. The invite said 2pm but it launched at 1pm since I think there were too many people and we were all gonna block the mall’s entrance or something if we waited another hour.
I arrived there at 11.30am.
This is the view from the top when people are moving.
Living it up without lighting up
Yess, I went to the exhibition after seeing Claudia’s post on the limited edition rings.

The grim reaper’s gonna get youuuuuu.
Design competitions…

The 3Ds to winning story competitions in Singapore
Mind you, a disclaimer, I’m totally not a judge of any official writing events or an award winning writer or some teacher or whatever. Heck, you can even see that I’m not writing “proper” here. I am just me. A normal typical person.
Okay, I had to laugh insanely a bit there at the previous line.
ANYWHO! Yes, from my observations, you need the 3Ds to win story competitions in Singapore. Mind you, the 3Ds don’t count if it has a specific genre like chic-lit or romance or science fiction (I forgot the name of that event but yes, there was a sci-fi comp for students last year or so).
You need the 3Ds to win in open story competitions where you’re allowed to write whatever story you want. Only you know, that’s not true. You’re allowed to write whatever story you want but the winners will always be the ones that have the 3Ds. What are they?
The 3Ds by Seriously Sarah:
- Descriptive
- Dramatic
- Depressive

THE VENUE HAS CHANGED!!!
I just wanted to say that. It is too amusing not to. Anywho, yesss. The event got an upgrade since apparently there was a lot of response for it. Bad, bad me. I didn’t rsvp so I signed in right then. They’re popular ladies, you see. Hence the bigger location.
Beyond the Band: Johnny Axel
Finally it’s online! Beyond the Band: Johnny Axel.
You can watch it here:
Click on the video to watch it in HD form on the youtube site. Meanwhile, we won Best use of Dialogue and Best editing for Singapore.
Oh and this production was an Australian/Singapore collab thing if you didn’t know. We did the script over Skype, international phone calls when it started to lag, Google documents and Celtx.
Curtin university students on the Australian side, uhh non-students in the Singapore side and a whole lot of rushing of uploading things online and downloading said clip to and fro both sides of the productions. Heh.
