Or usually, I&#8217;d just copy just the title of the event and press ctrl+f it or apple+f depending on which computer I&#8217;m on.<\/p>\n<p>Onwards we go!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1>In the Footsteps of Raffles<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong> National Library, Possibility Room, Level 5<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date: <\/strong>29 June 2010<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 7pm<\/p>\n<p><em>Nigel Barley<\/em> is the author of twenty books, academic and popular, in genres as diverse as travel writing, fiction, biography and art history. <strong>In the Footsteps of Raffles <\/strong>and <strong>Rouge Raider<\/strong> are two of his books which have been written against the backdrop of Singapore and her history.<\/p>\n<p>In this session, Nigel will discuss some of the particular difficulties and satisfactions that lie behind various works, concentrating on those involving the history of Singapore and SE Asia. He will also tease out certain themes that have emerged increasingly over the years such as his motivation as a writer, his personal relationship to his subjects and the tension between randomness and structure.<\/p>\n<p>Admission is <strong>free<\/strong>! You need not be a writer to start with. This book presents essential scientific and clinical knowledge which would reduce stigma, give hope, and reduce suffering.<\/p>\n<p>Co-written by 32 experts consisting of doctors, psychiatrists and ex-patients in Singapore, they shared their knowledge in a straight forward, easily understood manner of the psychological illness from various perspectives in 24 articles in the book.<\/p>\n<p>Admission is <strong>free<\/strong>! To register, email <a href=\"mailto: info@bookcouncil.sg\" target=\"_blank\">info@bookcouncil.sg<\/a> with your name and phone number.<\/p>\n<h1>The e-Mote Digital Storytelling Competition<\/h1>\n<p>The e-Mote Digital Storytelling Competition\u00c2\u00a0 is open to all secondary school students:<\/p>\n<p>Category A: Secondary 1 and 2 students<br \/>\nCategory B: Secondary 3, 4 and 5 students<\/p>\n<p>Each school is encouraged to send 2 entries per category.<\/p>\n<p>Your stories should be between 1 minute and 3 minutes in length. The stories we are looking for must be in a digital format. What this means is that the submissions can be in the form of a video, a slideshow, podcast or any other digital media format that can tell a story with visuals and sound, suitable for digital broadcast on the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>For more info, click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookcouncil.sg\/sisf\/2009dl\/e-Mote.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(It opens to a pdf!)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h1>e-MOTE storytelling workshop<\/h1>\n<p>In order to tell a story, you need to know how to tell a story; and our workshops are designed to do just that. Workshops will cover storytelling techniques and technical execution of the digital story.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve missed the 16 &amp; 17 June workshops, we have organised four new ones for you: &#8211;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u201c 3 July 2010: (1) 9.00am to 1.20pm and (2) 2.00pm to 6.20pm &#8211;<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u201c 10 July 2010: (3) 9.00am to 1.20pm and (4) 2.00pm to 6.20pm<\/p>\n<p>The cost is only S$15nett per person. It&#8217;s a prize by Mrs Hedwig Anuar who was the first Singaporean Director of the National Library of Singapore. Anyway it can be short stories, a novel or poetry!
