Well, for Nanowrimo, that is. Sure, I can probably write more a day and finish it before the deadline but it’s just fun that way, you know. Plus, I like seeing a gradual incline on the graph on my account there.

If you’re not even Nanowrimo-ing, this will still probably be educational if you ever want to figure out how to write at least a novel of your own. Sure, there’s probably tons of websites out there saying the same thing but heeey, whatever. I just like writing these stuff up anyway to note it down. Thus, this will also be a progress post of sorts.

Alright, this year I want to write about superheroes.

Or to be exact, I want to write about the person who makes the super hero outfits.

I know my theme and then I’ll have to figure out what genre I want to write it as. I can make it a romance, fantasy, sci-fi or etc but since this is for Nanowrimo and I do terribly like silliness and stuff… I’m doing this as a chic-lit.

Anywho, so since this is October, it’s still research time. You totally need to do some research in knowing what the heck you’re writing about unless you’re making stuff up. Which okay… You STILL need to do research even if you’re making stuff up to keep things logical in your story.

My current research:

Reading comics

Soon I Will be Invincible by Austin Grossman

My own experience

Talking to various superheroes and villains

Yeaah, I don’t think not many people can do the last one on that point there. On the novel there in the list, I was checking out how a superhero comic typed story could be written in novel form. Actually, I’ve read quite a few books with superheroes in them but I thought that one would be different.

Too hot to handle (photo by Alex01SG)

Right, talking to various superheroes and villains for me… Eh, I don’t have to do that much since I’ve talked to them before. This book should be fun to do since I’ll be able to get pissy on some points like…

Why those dark avenger types only hang out at night in their outfits instead of the day? It’s cause that’s it can be so freaking hot if they fight crime in the sunlight.

Seriouslyyyy.

And having a cape is just a bonus to hide big butts etc, etc. With the research in knowing how their weapons work is a bonus too. In my story, I have a vague plot and it will go something in the lines of the protagonist or aka the heroine of the story will be one of those tailors at a shop. I know what shop it’ll be too but I wonder if it’ll be spoilerish to people if I wrote it down. Though, if you’re still reading this then it might be you’re curious and wanting to know more! That’s cool, just know that you’re gonna be spoilered then.

My vague outlines would go something like this since I have to keep in mind that this is chic-lit and knowing your target audience is half the battle even if I have no idea what battle this is going to be.

First person point of view

Age of character could be early twentyish or late teenish

Probably early twentyish according to the plot in mind

Trouble must happen (duh)

Trouble must be fixed (double duh)

Trouble must be fixed with some silliness and logic that makes sense to the character but doesn’t really make sense to everyone else but it works somehow (very duh but only for chic-lit, there is an art to the method to doing this)

Awesome ending that leaves space for a continuation but not too much to make the reader think that the story hasn’t got a proper conclusion

Iron Man can’t move as easily as Rogue

The first person P.O.V has both a plus point and minus point. In reality, it IS the shop that does the costumes for the actual heroes and villains. I’m not saying any more since then it’ll be much of a spoiler to know what happens then.
