The First SG Camera Convention in Singapore

This is the first SG Camera Convention held at Capitol Piazza that I knew of. Or the first one ever that was held here in Singapore to my knowledge.

I happened upon it when it showed up in my Instagram feed and it was indeed in my interest.

It showed up a few days before the convention so I was lucky to see it.

Ironically, I didn’t see much publicity about it too…

In any case, this was a pretty fun small convention but full of people who were interested in cameras, lens and accessories.

It said what it said.

There were official brands there.

And there were shops that I tended to buy from too and some demos.

I went to the vertical talk since I had activities for the other days and that was an interest of mine.

This talk was by Gavin Lim of Black Tactical Unit and he was going to run a workshop about micro dramas (details not out yet at the time of this post but I guess just go check their instagram page)

And yes, I’m very interested in vertical reels but commercially in Singapore, it’s not trashy enough.

Everyone is too standard and using more traditional to 16:9 plotlines which is nice but you got to know.

People who watch vertical videos want unrealistic trashy plotlines and the ones here so far are just ‘decent’ or restrtictive. That’s my personal opinion anyway.

The vendors had cheaper prices than usual and I got to check some lights I had been interested in to see how it was in real life.

So ok, that’s fun.

Maybe they’ll have another one next year and hopefully with more publicity??

It was actually busy too so somehow it really did spread to a lot of photographers and people who use videocameras. Not the typical hobbyists which gave a different kind of vibe and.

Ok, WHO ACTUALLY ORGANIZED THIS? I still don’t know. It really was a happenschance that I managed to attend it. The curation of the booths were nice, I actually laughed when I saw Cathay Photo there because I was told if you bought stuff there (they had special prices for the convention for some items), you could just pick it up at their main store next street over.

Really, a lot of booths had some shops nearby cause if you don’t know the Peninsula Plaza area and the surrounding place, it is the place for camera and accessories so hence it was nice to see the official brands making an appearance at this convention.

I liked it. Perhaps maybe there will be more talks or demos by the brands themselves too besides at their booths?

Anyway, in the land of a lot of high res cameras and photographers and videographers, I decided to take everything down to low res and make a highlight using my Kodak Charmera so there you go.
