I’m not Blameless.

This is technically the books I’ve read in the past week but it’s going to be of a more fangirl squee worthy discussion post because why not? Firstly, let’s just do this:

  • Talk Nerdy to Me by Vicki Lewis Thompson – Chic lit. Lots of technical nerdy engineering puns, a bit far fetched with all the sexy coincidences but the dialogue is pretty fun. Pretty enjoyable if you want something fun and silly (as most chic-lit books go) to read.
  • Soulless by Gail Carriger – Steampunk lady with a very good parasol for whacking people. THIS IS GOOD if you like strong heroines, interesting co-starring characters and the supernatural! Also, hot werewolf guy lead too
  • Changeless by Gail Carriger – Sequel to this! Once you read Soulless, you want Changeless.

I might be saying Soulless and Changeless briefly here because after this “more” cut, it’s going to be a bunch of fangirly squee. WARNING, if you don’t want spoilers, don’t click it! Too bad for those on Google reader or assorted rss readers OR those linked here straight away. THIS IS NOT A REVIEW POST, THIS IS A SQUEE POST.

You’ll be able to see the whole post without a cut so if you don’t want spoilers stop reading here and get the books pronto instead.

Have a book trailer of Soulless if you haven’t a clue how it is!

THIS TEXT IS TO SEPARATE THE LINE OF THE ABOVE AND THE SPOILERY SQUEENESS OF BELOW. DO NOT READ WHATEVER IS BELOW UNLESS YOU HAVE READ SOULLESS OR CHANGELESS. OR IF YOU DON’T MIND SPOILERS.

I knew this was going to be a good book because there were raving reviews and all that on Livejournal and the various bookish websites. I didn’t see it in stores until last weekend at Kino because Raven Silvers pointed it out when we were all in the fiction section. I told her it’s really good (I did get to read the first few preview passages online but not that much!) and so she got it.

And then she said it was really nice on Twitter and Kino was selling this at a very oddly cheap price! $13.42 to be exact. It’s pretty cheap for this thickness and type of book. ALL THE BETTER FOR US.

ANYWAY, AAAAAAAAAAAH.

The first scene is already fun, she whacks a vampire with her parasol and kills him while messing up her dress with treacle tart. Yes, I would think it would be a pain when one messes up one’s dress with treacle tart. That was when I knew this was going to be fun. Naturally, hot werewolf guy who is cross with her is the one that likes her!

LIKE AAAAH, he’s so Scottish and big and burly!

Lord Akeldama the vampire is so fruity but he’s fruity in a good way with his drones! It’s so nice to see how Alexia reacts to everyone and that her bestfriend Ivy has the most ridiculous taste in hats. This story has a lot of tea too so by the end or in the middle of the book, you’d want to have some tea.

Or a sandwich.

Alexia certainly likes her food and there’s lots of descriptions of those. And they’re all very polite! Well except when Alexia is with Lord Maccon aka Conall the hot big werewolf in charge of the Bureau of Unnatural Registry. I don’t know about others but to me it’s like my usual romance trash PLUS a lot more steampunk, supernatural creatures, adventure and tea.

So it was fuuuuuuuuun. It’s not romancy but just romancy enough with Alexia investigating things and generally being mean to Lord Maccon before they get so hot they start making out with each other.

Ahhh, I knew they’d be together ever since the hedgehog incident. No one forgets an incident like that indeed.

So yay it’s a complete story! Which leads me to getting Changeless. Apparently it came out when it’s not even May! So we’ve gotten it!

Okay.

Changeless.

ARRRRRRRRGH LORD MACCON! I WANNA SMACK YOU! Did you ever think Alexia would cheat on you, you stupid furry werewolf?

AND HELLO THERE MADAME LEFOUX. You are, how they say it in French?, très chaud? I WISH TO TAKE YOUR HANDS and comfort you after Angelique’s demise and give you more aethrographic crystals to tinker with! BUILD ME A DIRIGIBLE AND WE WILL FLOAT INTO THE AETHER TOGETHER. And some more parasols preferably in a more discreet design.

Or something.

Also Ivy.

Your gift is your curse.

Of hats.

Basically the ending of Changeless isn’t SUPER closed, it leads on to BLAMELESS which comes out in September! However since Changeless came EARLY instead of the May date, perhaps Blameless would be out sooner than the estimated time.

Changeless does bring about more questions like DUH DUH DUH, what would happen if Alexia did meet her father? Well, if he wasn’t dead that is. Also, the whole mummy scene is creepy, creepy. I prefer vampires or werewolves if you will. At first when Madame Lefoux came in with the descriptions and all, I wondered if she was a flat chested (????) succubus but no, she just is naturally hot to make others swoon for her.

So great.

Lord Maccon needs to be smacked while Alexia is being sensible on her own but alas, she still does have feelings and emotions so oh dear indeed. WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN? AAAH. AAAAH. We’ll see when Blameless comes out.
