Last weekend I went to the Everest Room at the Woodlands library to go to their free Introduction to Book Making class with Pooja!
It was, as I said, free and that the library got to have it there in Woodlands for a day. Limited seats were had but I managed to sign up once I knew about it since Pooja’s classes are always packed and you mustn’t hesitate in clicking yes.
So if you haven’t known, from the various news reports and whatnot, McDonalds in Singapore had Hello Kitty Fairy Tale dolls if you purchase it with a value meal or something. The line up is as such, the witch from the Wizard of Oz, the Ugly Duckling, the lion from Wizard of Oz, the Singing Bone, the Frog Prince and Red Riding Hood.
As for the witch, she was exclusive for deliveries only so you could get her if you called McD’s delivery. My friend in Norway commented that she didn’t really look like the witch from Oz but that she was more like a McDonald’s staff who was a witch? Very Kiki’s Delivery Service.
For the rest, we know their stories pretty much.
Except for the Singing Bone.
That’s the black Hello Kitty. I have no idea why it is in the line up, the rest generally have happy endings but before we get to that…
This particular kitty caused a near riot at some McDonald’s branches, some have called that the government should step in just because they couldn’t get one. Others blamed the staff for not having more.
I don’t know man, I thought the staff actually COOKED and sold food, not manufacture the cats.
And some have bid for this kitty till $126,000.
I don’t know if they are legit bidders but at least 28 accounts bid for it. If they are because if you don’t, your account gets banned and such which from what I see these are NEW accounts without reviews, they might just heck it.
If it was real, the details said cash on delivery. I don’t know how you’re stuffing $126,000 in briefcases or bags and going to the nearest MRT station for a meet up.
With all these ridiculous happenings, do these people know the story?
No, this isn’t overexposed or that the contrast is wrong. That’s the haze while we had a gathering of book clubs at the central library’s 16th story pod! That’s the view on top around 6.30pm in the evening.
We were there for the Read! Singapore 2013 anthology showcase.
It’s the Singapore Design Film Festival 2013 and I managed to catch Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope! Firstly, this was held at the School of the Arts and secondly, woah. Look at the tickets. The one in gold font is the ticket holder. Paper’s by RJ Paper.
Yes, design film festival, I get it. It was really designerish.
This is presented by Anonymous. Maaan, that’s so designer.
Anyway while it wasn’t sold out, it was a packed theatre! And then the movie started and it was just… So good! There was a brief cameo by Here Be Geeks too since they went during the year it was filming.
You had the perspectives of the comic artists to be, the collectors, the fans, the cosplayers, the shop owners! Basically the people who made up Comic Con and it’s just so wow.
If you ever wanted to go there, well then the title is really well named because it really is a fan’s hope! A hope to be in the comic business, a hope to survive it. A hope to make a great show. A hope to make lasting friendships or more! It’s just so AWWWWW.
And it finished. The full movie was 1 hour and 26 minutes but it didn’t feel like it and the ending was just so awwwwww. Meanwhile Papa Palheta along with Books Actually were there by the ticket counters. The coffee was priced by how much you tipped! And the books were of course tagged as usual.
Anyway the Japanese Film Fest will be starting on 26 June so check that out if you wanna see non-mainstream movies. They even have RENT A CAT!
The Mythopoeia exhibition by Yoshitaka Amano is held at the Mizuma Gallery. Do check the gallery’s website for opening hours and address. We got there by dropping off at Labrador Park MRT and then just walking up to the Gillman Barracks. There’s a large sign saying where the Barracks are.
Mind you, it’s quite a walk inwards as Mizuma Gallery is held at block 22 and it’s waaaaay on top and towards the inner most compound of the barracks. Just look at the map at the barracks if you don’t know where you are in there.
The exhibition will be held until 14 July 2013 so you still have time for a look-see!
I’m phoning it in. BECAUSE you can read about the cat party I went to for the launch of Love Kuching’s Foster Space here! That’s Cooky. You can still adopt him if you meet the requirements. He apparently likes to smoosh up to you in slightly weird positions.
There was a time in 2007 where I made a game with a bunch of ladies (plus one guy who helped out!) called Rojak Institute. We premiered it at Cosfest (Singapore) and Comic Fiesta (Malaysia) in 2007 but we made the game in the one year before that. Or technically less than a year.
So it started around in mid 2006 that Kei grabbed a bunch of us writers, illustrators and programmers to do a visual novel game. Mind you, we were either working/interning/schooling. Mostly in school.
Rojak Institute had original art, story and heck MUSIC.

It is originally made in flash and was sold at our conventions in CD-Rs with printed bookmarks so it auto ran when you placed it in your computer.

This is for those who ask how to test it since you might not have a friend who play a ukulele to go with you. These are just the BASICS. If you don’t know still, just ask the shop keeper!
Also, I forgot to add about the nut, it’s near the headstock. Your strings should be resting on it too and not moving all around when you’re strumming wildly.

The last day of the Deviant Art store is the 28th May 2013. I only knew it today and decided to buy something before it closed down. The digital artist bag is so nice and well, I would have gotten it but I didn’t ‘need’ it when I had my other normal bags.
ALAS, too late anyway since it has sold out! There’s the nomad bag left and while it is beautiful, le sigh. I don’t ‘need’ it either since I just got myself a (very cheap) skateboard bag via ebay.
I wouldn’t say no to the bags though, if it were available to me.
