Beware of Tall Grass

There was a hike proposed of @Hai_Ren on twitter to check out The Green Corridor which is pretty much a railroad track of sorts for the weekend and I signed up along with 2 of the crew. The cast of this episode includes @Hai_Ren as the group organizer, @deafknee, @wilfredphua, @irukafishy, Raven Silvers and Avariel. The weather was sunny as we went off in the morning!

Apparently the Nature Society of Singapore was going on a hike too but they would be from another side of the tracks, heh.

Download for free!

Yes. You guys probably like to download stuff for free. This time it’s for CHARITY. Ho ho ho. This is for Total Defense Day! Yeah, it passed but their charity drive is still going on until 31 March so you still have time to click. This is a “Click for Charity” with the theme “Home – Keeping It Together”.

OK. COPY PASTA times on how it works.

How “Click For Charity” Works

  • 39 local artistes have come together and lent their voices to a new arrangement of the well-loved NDP song “Home” (which was first written by Dick Lee and sung by Kit Chan in 1998). The group of artistes spans five decades, from 60s to 70s icons Vernon Cornelius and Ramli Sarip to present-day songbirds like Stefanie Sun and JJ Lin.
  • For each person who downloads the “Home” music video from the campaign website www.thisishome.sg, Nexus’ partner organisations will donate $1 to the Community Chest (ComChest)!
  • Each person can download the music video as many times as they wish.
  • The “Home” music video is available for download now and the “Click For Charity drive closes on 31 Mar.

And they, the organizers  hope to raise $300,000 for two ComChest causes (“Dignifying the Lives of the Elderly” & “Keeping Families Together”) through this effort.

So yeah, just go to their link and download the song or rather music video. You can choose low or high res versions. It is that song. The one that goes “This is home truly, as my senses tell me…” etc etc.

MEANWHILE, on a related note! HELP VOTE MY FRIEND’S VIDEO with said THEME HOME!

You can watch it here. It’s easy cause you don’t need to freaking And that’s it. Oh yeah, for those that have been wondering the chords for Home, it’s C, Em, F, Em, F, Em, Dm, G… repeat bla bla. For me I prefer the original one so yeah, hence the chords. So go forth and click and downloaaad for charity.

From the past to the future!

It started at Raffles Hotel. Well, the group was to meet up with the I Heart Museums people at the bus stop nearby first! The crew and I were to go on a Journey Through Time – A Fantasy Tour by the National Heritage Board. FYI, the next trip is on March 12 and 13! For those interested in it, you can find out more and email/call them here. Make sure you call or email them before 7th March for it!

OK, the intro to this whole thing, I saw the tour tickets being a prize on Yesterday.sg and then looked at the actual website for this tour and went all, “Heck it. I don’t want to have a chance to win tickets, I so totally want to be on this!”.

Thus the crew signed up for it too because the summary was this:

Join characters Julia and Meng, magically transported from 1914, as they visit our iconic National Monuments and give first-hand accounts of olden day Singapore. The tour, which takes participants to Raffles Hotel, St. Andrew’s Cathedral and the Armenian Church, will focus on the contributions of the Armenian community in Singapore as well as other prominent historical figures. Additional tours will be held on 12 and 13 March as part of Illuminate 175, a special event celebrating the 175th anniversary of the Armenian Church, the oldest church in Singapore. Suitable for children 10 years and above.

Oh heck yes.

The Story and the Pitch!

Hello everyone! I received something interesting in my email yesterday. Apparently there’s a workshop by a literary agency (!!) in Singapore. More details after the cut but briefly, it’s by Peony Literary Agency. This workshop will be more on pitching and how to snag yourself an agent amongst other things.

Short details: At the Arts House, 10am – 5pm, Friday, 25 February 2011, $40 for registry (includes lunch)

This is going to be an intro to that would lead to their weekend workshops in August. I’d think that would be more extensive (and more expensive[?] since it’ll be TWO days at a conference) but if you can’t go for this Friday one, they’ll have more in the future. Still, this looks promising so check out the main details after the “more” cut. I’m going to be there to attend anyway.

Here’s the copy paste from the email!

And you can vote for N.E. Mation!

Yes, the other time I went to check them out was when they were still doing their productions. Now they are done. Voting is up for N.E. Mation 5! Just head on to NEMation.sg to watch the 10 animated videos and vote for them! There are 3 ways to vote too. Via their website, their facebook and with your phone. Just head on to the facebook or website to find out how to vote using SMS too.

Anyway, you might win a prize for voting! The prizes include an ipad, an X-box 360 and an ixus Canon camera.

So go on and vote! What is le sad is that this time you won’t see the shorts on TV Mobile since TV MOBILE DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE!

I’ve watched it since it started out in the first year and now… Wow. Well, you can see it for yourself. You have to vote for three though! It’s a requirement so that students from the same school won’t spam all their votes to support their school without voting for others.

I won’t say which ones I’m voting for but good grief. Imagine all the effort the students went through to do them. I like to support those who did ton loads of stuff. Those who like to overkill and heck others. BWUAHAHAHAH.

Go forth and spread the link since the students SHOULD have their stuff viewed after all that effort in making them. It would be a shame if they didn’t since it’s now more online and not on TV mobile for people to watch. Well, the ad for it is on TV but not as much exposure as last time when on buses. In other words, super wasted right? Doing production for 3 weeks non stop and before that weeks of preparation to pitch and get through to be the finalists etc. It’s sooo freaking sad if they don’t get as many people to watch it as possible!

Right, so go and voteeee at NEMation.sg! It ends on 6 February so be sure to do it now!

Erasing who? Erasing David!

A little message! Since Tiramisue wants to let you guys know about this screening of Erasing David! There’s only ONE screening and that’s this Friday, 28 January at 8pm at Sinema.

What’s this movie about?

David Bond lives in one of the most intrusive surveillance states in the world. He decides to find out how much private companies and the government know about him by putting himself under surveillance and attempting to disappear – a decision that changes his life forever.

It’s a documentary but it’s one that will make you freak out how easy it is to be tracked and how information could be used for evil the wrong purposes even if you think it’s just nothing. So catch it since you won’t be able to get to watch this here.

Unless you got a DVD of it or something but this is an indie production, so you won’t be able to get it that easily.

Book online at Sinema.sg or just buy the tickets there before the show!

In which we did it for SCIENCE!

CSI: The Experience Singapore will end on the 20th February 2011 at the Science Centre thus we decided to bust in there like investigators and the Nancy Drews were are! Also, for an adult it costs $20 but if you did a package where you get to go to the main Science Centre, it’s $21. I urge you to buy that one. MEANWHILE, we paid $16.80 each! HAH! There’s discounts if you’re a Passion Card member AND if you are a Starhub mobile subscriber.

So no pictures allowed in the main area but before that, you can have a picture taken with your friends. It’s $15 a piece and $20 for 2 if I remember right. I remembered there were six of us and we paid just $10 each anyway cause it looked really good as if you were a cast member of the CSI series. Meanwhile, the area is quite small and HAH! We managed to finish all three cases and ONE bonus one by noon before the crowd came in.

Case 4 is based on a real crime scene in Singapore. You solve it on your own to submit your answers online. Your ticket is your agent number so don’t lose your ticket if you want to join the competition for case 4!

Also if you’ve ever played Phoenix Wright on the NDS, it’s like that. Only in real life. Might I add, the place is really small? Cool but small.

Pompeii – A life in a Roman town 79CE

This isn’t a Sarah Does Singapore adventure. This is a Random Encounter. Which wasn’t really random at all… BUT, this is not part of the SDS series! No matter, the Adventure Crew went to the Pompeii exhibit! It’s here until 23 January at the National Museum. Free for students as always and $12 for us who had to pay.

SDS 2.25 – Draw Me A Map

This wasn’t on a Saturday but instead a week night! I had been meaning to post this for quite a while, heh. You might remember me doing stop motion the other day and this time I got to see the student groups doing their animation! And… they had 3 weeks to do their production! Good grief.
