Back to the past! AGAIN!

Or in other words, to the old aka former supreme court once more! Remember how I went up to the freaking roof? This time I AM GOING DOWN DEEP BELOW! We’re going artifact hunting!

Ok, not too deep, I think but yes! Time to be Lara Croft or Indiana Jones! Or well, not really. I don’t think there are hidden tunnels or portals at the site of the future National Art Gallery. Nonetheless instead of just viewing historical artifacts in the museums and such, why not have a go at finding them? Volunteers are needed for the month of November!

Call for Volunteers: Archaeological Excavations at National Art Gallery 2nd-30th November 2010

Archaeologists from the Southeast Asian Studies Programme NUS will be undertaking a major excavation project at the future site of the National Art Gallery (the former Supreme Court and City Hall), right in the heart of downtown Singapore!

We will be excavating for remains of the legendary settlement of Temasek (c.1300s). Our last evaluation field work conducted in January 2010 revealed significant pockets of artifacts from the ancient city, and this November season we expect to uncover more.

Venue: Site of the future National Art Gallery (car park between the former Supreme Court and City Hall buildings)
Street Address: 1 St.Andrew’s Road
Dates: 2nd – 30th November 2010
Hours: 0930 – 1830hrs
Work Days: Tuesday thru Sundays (Mondays off – apart from this rest day, we work through all other days rain and shine)

Do be advised that archaeology is a physically demanding affair, and you should not be afraid to get a little dirty at the end of the day. Do wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty. Bring along sunblock, a hat, a water flask (we have a large capacity insulator on site which is always filled with iced water), and if you like a change of clothes at the end of the day.

They need volunteers and they have a roster so please email him to know when you can do so! And this would be very fun experience to learn more on how finding pieces of history and such! I am talking in exclamations!

Newsflash: City Hall and former Supreme Court tours open!

More there’s more slots for guided tours for the old supreme court (or former supreme court as some might say!) and city hall! Yeah, I know some of you might wonder why is city hall called city hall… Well, the building next to the supreme court is the ACTUAL city hall, thus that’s why the area is called, uh that.

I know my random encounter post whet the appetites of some adventurers and historians that read it since it was a post to know how the area was like and for those who couldn’t. It was a “Lookie here” archival post instead of my usual go do it since I knew there was limited space. HOWEVER, now you can check it out yourself.  SO, go forth and sign up!

The Dusts of Time are Dusty

On the 8th September of 2010 I was invited to a preview tour of the old supreme court (some might call it the former supreme court but it’s the same place). OH HECK YEAAAAAAAAH! A warning to those reading this post via google readers or whatever since I don’t think you’ll see a “more” cut. THIS post is going to be EXTREMELY long!

The short details: The old supreme court is going to be converted into the National Art Gallery in the future! There’s going to be an open house on the 8th and 9th October. However, tour slots are full at the moment. IN ANY CASE. LET’S GET ON WITH THE SHOW!

If you expect “serious” textbook history stuff for this post, go find other blogs or something. I will disappoint you because this is freaking exciting! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!

Director’s cut of the story of Yeh Chi Wei

Last Saturday, which was pretty much the fourth of September had me going to the Singapore Arts Museum in the evening. This is the same day of what you’ll see in the next episode of SDS, heh heh. I was invited to this special session by@brainopera about Yeh Chi Wei which was going to be talk/tour by his granddaughter, Jacey Yeh! The tour is technically called “The (other) story of Yeh Chi Wei” but to me it’s like a director’s cut version of his story!

LE GASP indeed!

By the way, the exhibition is on until 12 September. ALSO, I read that she’ll be doing a tour on the 11th at around 5pm. Contact the museum prior to that or something. EDIT: Email Ms. Masitah Ismail (Education Officer) at masitah_ismail@nhb.gov.sg for the tour!

She’s flying!

I think of that when I think of flying. Yeah, I like Azumanga Daioh.

Meowy! Meowy!

There’s a quote about cats and writers that I can’t remember but behind every writer that’s a cat or something like that. Well, at least I know most of the award winning writers have cats so HMM. Clearly I need one too.

Well, I can’t have one so instead, I have a rental cat.

Ok.

So it’s not really a rental cat. It’s more of a community cat! A stray kitty that’s not really that stray because in the dictionary it says stray is:

  • a domestic animal found wandering at large or without an owner
  • any homeless or friendless person or animal

For one thing, since when cats have owners? Ok, you can say you own a cat but they technically own you in a way and besides this kitty isn’t friendless! It has meeeeeeeeeeee and whoever else! That picture was taken last year in December near Christmas. Note the black and tabby! Also this was before my old camera died hence the quality!
