To those graduating design students

Atas

This post doesn’t apply to just design students who are just graduating. It applies to art students and those production/web/film/animation students. I’m from that ‘side’ so yeah this is for you. This is just my take and this is what I wanted to tell you guys. Not everything because they’ll be too much but just some bits.

Also this will be tips for those who are expecting to enroll in such art or design schools perhaps.

It’s design show season and I would like to congratulate those who survived.

Survived because when you started out your course, you might find your friends dropping out of school whether due to financial difficulties or realizing that this route is not for them. So yay for you hitting graduation because it wasn’t an easy route.

So by now you’d have a portfolio or artwork perhaps? PUT IT ONLINE.

Bubble G.U.M!

SEE THIS BOOK? It’s Bubble G.U.M and it’s in stock at Books Actually if you’re not buying it online here. BUY it this 21st to 30 April especially from Books Actually. Why? Look at this message:

Dear Customers/Friends of BooksActually:

We humbly ask another big favour of you: please drop by to buy books/vintage trinkets for yourself, your friends, family, or all your loved ones. From 21st to 30th April, we will hold a 10-Day 25%-Storewide Sale to raise money so we can buy a new shop space for our bookstore. (WE REALLY NEED TO STOP RENTING/THEY HAVE TO STOP INCREASING OUR RENT.)

We are finally crossing the next step and making one of our biggest strides forward.

BooksActually is not what it is today without the people who have walked through our doors for the past (almost) nine years. They are that German gentleman who comes in every other day to buy a book before heading over to Jerry’s for a jug of beer; that family who visits us every Sunday after breakfast across the street; the father who comes every Christmas to buy books for his missus and three daughters; the writer who sits behind our counter on quiet afternoons helping us to stamp-chop paper-bags; or the young dating couple who took a picture of themselves in a giant birdcage, creating an illusion of lovebirds (their son is now almost two).

The bookstore is not what it is today without every single one of you who has loved us, hated us, and lightly nudged (or forcibly pushed) us to move forward — to be better, climb higher and dream bigger.

With our deepest gratitude,
The BooksActually Team

So yeah. Cause it’s silly if their rent keeps increasing and whatnot. They might as well buy a piece of property to keep things low since the price of rent is ridiculous. THUS! BUY A BOOK or some random goods from them.

There’s stationery, bags, vintage gear too. If you have no idea what to buy, here’s a suggested list of BOOKS by my friends and me:

1 million KG challenge

I kept seeing the ad for the 1 Million Kg Challenge on my facebook and I went “Oooh” when I clicked on it. The Health Promo Board is having a new campaign where people can win stuff when they lose weight.

The launch was the weekend of 15 and 16th March at Ngee Ann City. I had been waiting to know where the weigh in kiosks were going to be at and so this was the best place to get it.

It’s actually a campaign that promotes fitness and all that. The only pissy bit is that there ARE requirements if you want to join this challenge which is the whole BMI thing.

If you’re too under their BMI range, you can’t sign up, if you’re too over you can’t sign up either. I guess it’s for their own disclaimer safety because this is a general challenge and they can’t do tailored recommendations for those who are too under or over the BMI range to join this.

Really too bad though because I know there are friends who are over their BMI target range and want to do this. Plus, BMI is not the exactly the best way to measure because everyone has a different body type. ANYWHO, this ain’t a health blog, so y’all go research on what I mean since I’m gonna just continue about the event itself!

Spoiler alert: I am within their BMI challenge range so I can join this.

A feast of Game of Thrones?

Savour 2014!

I was invited to the royal wedding of his highness King Joffrey Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell by HBO Asia. For those who don’t know who they are, I’m gonna go “Whaaaaaaat” and also that they’re from the GAME OF THRONES.

A new season is beginning and thus, HBO Asia invited some of us geeks for a little get together at their event at Savour 2014. It’s at the Promontory this year.

Filler post!

It's called pannbiff

Just a filler post. So have some very filling pannbiff, ah ha ha haaaa.

This was at Fika at Millenia Walk. They didn’t have Kopparberg so that’s actually Champis (they’re sodas) and it tastes kind of like Zapple, so apple soda. Mintea had Portello which DOES taste like caramel! It would probably taste really good as a float too.

I did blog about Fika at Beach Road before and YES, the food is still awesome, so yay!

Venus Run goodie bag!

Also, I picked up my Venus Run bag. I’ll be running next week and no, I’m not a run runner. I just uh, run and mostly walk too? It’s just 5km anyway.

Pretty much this is just a filler post since I have other things to post about in the week under State of Sarah.

For one thing, Scoot did reply to me and well… You’ll know soon what’s going to happen.

Really Random Encounters

Detecting metal?

We went to the national museum for the Total Defence 30th anniversary! There were so many cool things to do even before entering the museum.

Like playing with metal detectors and eating army rations or checking out their weaponry.

Unfortunately, by the time you read this, the special exhibition is oveeer.

OH AND BY THE WAY. I AM VERILY GLAD, my two teams in N.E.mation? THEY BOTH GOT INTO TOP THREE. The champion and the 1st runner up but that shall be a different post…

Anyway, Saturday really was random adventures day.

It’s 30 Years of Total Defence!

National Museum of Singapore

I got invited to the Total Defence media conference the other day and I wondered if I should attend. OBVIOUSLY, I said yes hahahaha. Thanks AsiaPRWerkz for inviting me! Anyway, it’s about this year’s events cause it’s the 30th anniversary of total defence!

This is going to be a LONG post because there IS a lot of exciting things happening.

Tote-ally cool.

I tote-ally liked this bag. A lot of others did too because of the pun. Inside was a nifty file of press releases, postcards and a Happy Feet figurine (you’ll see in the later part of this post).

OH and you might be able to get one of these bags too! Details later below, hahaha.

A Beautiful Plan

Huh, this is the first State of Sarah report for the year. Well there you go. I have a plan. Oh and before I start on what this year will be, LIKE my page here: http://facebook.com/seriouslysarahSG

Because you guys want to know what’s happening in Singapore or want to go events? Well, just like that page. I don’t post ALL my activities here, that would just be silly and spammy.

Firstly, this Saturday I’m going to La Salle to hopefully see The Walking Dead stars at 11am and then I’ll have a snack or something and go for the Run for Your Lives Asia since mine starts at 4pm.

That’s just this weekend.

Note, this post is going to be Singlish-y.

What I am up to is also…

Love Kuching Project

Well, I do now and then get to help out at Love Kuching Project. I didn’t get Dawn from them though, Dawn just self-rescued herself by shoving herself inside the house.

Hanging around

Ok lor.

Gone to the Library

It's Kenny the friendly chicken

A new year, a new whatsits. January, the time when people sign up programmes or try to get fit because woah a new year and all. Well, I signed up for this ventriloquism workshop last year.

Have you checked the GoLibrary website?

They’ve got lots of free workshops happening if you clicked under arts in the programmes tab because this is the year of arts? Something like that, they’ve got a Press Play thing happening for 2014. When you see something you like, just quickly click on it because some programmes are really popular.

That’s Kenny the friendly chicken by the way and on the right is Shawn from Magic Avenue teaching us how to use a puppet and mostly how to make it look real and practice ventriloquism!
